Personally i think that this plan doesn't benefit anyone except the Paso del Norte Group which I might add are made up of mostly businessmen, lawyers, real estate entrepeneurs, and land developers. Eminent Domain controls the plan by giving the city permision to rebuild on a property by compensation, but is the compensation worth it???? I think not if the base of the property is only worth about $10,000-$50,000 dollars. Where are these people going to live when now a days average homes are pricing about $100,000!!!!!! Should we really adopt this plan???? Would it be worth all those taxes???
i understand your logic sonic but el paso is fucking ugly. Downtown seems outdated beacause the buildings are so old. El paso is growing steadily and it should show it in some way. you can always tell how economically rich and culturally "hip" a city is by looking at its downtown area, and by looking at downtown el paso its pretty accurate.

Your are right about Downtown El Paso. But what im stating is about the Segundo Barrio where people have lived there for generations. Not only will we destroy the oldest neighborhood in El Paso, but we will also be demolishing their lifestyles, memories, orginizations like the Migrant Farmworker Center.I do agree with you about the downtown area, but we should't include this plan around the segundo barrio area. Do you think it is resaonable to leave these people in the streets????
dont forget that the buisnessmen, lawyers, and land developers that are funding this proposal are taking chances with there own money. I know they are going to get tax credits, but how is that different from the billions that are already going to people that dont contribute to the economy. It is the American entrepeneurs that built this country and progressed the economy to being the greatest in the world. As for the people that are living there, I agree that the money they will get will most likely not be enough money to buy comperable homes. I hope that the city helps them with the same program that is afforded to Police Officers, and other types of goverment employees that get grants to move in to older established neighborhoods, just like the ones that these citizens live in.
